ANDREW SINCLAIR

Andrew Sinclair is an internationally-recognised opera stage director with more than 30 years’ experience in major opera houses in Europe, North America and Australia, including ROH Covent Garden, New York City Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, San Francisco Opera, Seattle Opera, Washington National Opera, Opera de Montreal and Opera Australia.
Andrew’s long association with ROH Covent Garden includes revivals of major productions, as well as assisting acclaimed directors including Franco Zeffirelli, John Copley, Goetz Freidrich, Harry Kupfer and Elijah Moshinsky.
The video of Andrew’s 1988 production of LA Boheme won a TV Emmy Award in 1989.
Over the years working with various companies, Andrew has built up a considerable network of singers with whom he has worked regularly. Among them are Placido Domingo, Roberto Alagna, Brian Hymel, Renee Fleming, Ermonela Jaho, Lise Lindstrom, Eva Maria Westbroek, Alexandra Kurzak and Bryn Terfel. Andrew has also worked with up-and-coming artists including tenors Liparit Avetissyan, Marcelo Puente and Brian Register.
Andrew has a wide knowledge of repertoire, ranging from the baroque (L’Incoronazione di Poppea) through standard repertoire (Puccini, R Strauss, Verdi, Wagner) to contemporary works – working on the world premieres of Sophie’s Choice (Maw) and The Minotaur (Birtwistle). He also has a wide-ranging knowledge of international conductors, directors, designers and agents.
